Dancin’ in the Rain

This is a very special web site for me…my mom was diagnosed with Myodysplastic Syndrome in 2009, and is about to undergo a bone marrow transplant. When she told me she’d like a blog about her experience as a way to keep her many friends up-to-date, and to help others going through what she’s going through, I told her she’d found her man.

I love this project first because she said it’s therapeutic for her to shape and share her thoughts with her friends, and I like that I wasa part of letting her do that, and because it turns out she’s a great blogger. She’s a total natural who picked up the use of WordPress as quickly as she found her voice as a writer. If you have a second, see for yourself and maybe leave a note in the guestbook to let her know you’re thinking of her!

Gavin’s 3rd Birthday

gavin-3rd-bday-closedFor Gavin’s 3rd birthday he chose a Spiderman theme. Coincidentally, the movie Spider-man 3 was just hitting the theaters. This was a pretty hairy “ghetto die cut” job. The blue you see is the inside of the card, so we cut out that lower right corner along the edge of the web. Getting the printing to match up on both sides and making all those cuts was a lot of work, but it came out great. Click the “more” link to see what it looked like when you opened it.

Gavin’s 2nd Birthday

gavin-2nd-birthdayThis is the invitation I designed for Gavin’s birthday, which as you can hopefully tell had a “movie night” theme. We die cut (OK, we used scissors, there were only two dozen of them…) the corners and everything so they were in the actual shape of an old-fashioned movie ticket.

GBarr MarCom Logo

gbarrmarcom-logo-for-headerI have to admit it, I love this logo. I love how the intertwining “g” and “b” form a continuous path, giving it some motion and energy. More importantly, I like how the flow of the path is in from the left and straight out the top. To me the path through my initials says “If you put something (i.e. raw information) into “gb” he will turn it into something totally awesome (i.e. a brochure or web site) that will drive you to new levels of success.” The last thing I realized and now like about the intertwined g and b is how well they break off into their own little design — perfect for the icon you see in browser tab, and makes a nice pattern when tiled.
